Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals are a very important part of our dietary requirements. In fact, vitamins and minerals are essential elements that our bodies need in order to function properly.

Vitamins and minerals are considered to be coenzymes because they assist our body’s enzymes in carrying out all of the daily activities and chemical reactions needed to maintain and sustain life.
Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients. A micronutrient is a nutrient that is only required in small quantities by the body. Other nutrients are required in larger quantities, including proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.

People who eat a balanced diet obtain all of the vitamins and minerals from the foods that they eat every day. However, some foods contain more vitamins and minerals than others, or more of particular types of vitamins and minerals than others.
